SATURDAY SHOWCASE......science fair s'mores

Walt was thrilled to have placed 2nd at his school in the science fair two weeks ago. We were very proud of both he and Rivers, who by the way, received Honorable Mention with his science project about friction. Walt's project was a solar oven, made from a pizza box, black paper, and aluminum foil. He "cooked" a batch of s'mores on our rooftop one afternoon, and they were delicious. His oven was able to melt the chocolate, partially "toast" the marshmallows, and the temperature inside the oven even reached 195 degrees!!

Because he won locally, he was able to compete again this week in the county fair against 2 other schools. He didn't place in the county, apparently there were no s'mores lovers in the crowd of judges. Hmph.

However here's what he did do:
  • had a great time with his buddies, ate a few chocolate chip cookies, had an excused absence to miss a day of school in the classroom, talked it up with the judges, ate Sonic for lunch, including a strawberry smoothie as opposed to school cafeteria food, looked fab in his blue oxford shirt, and hey......isn't that all that really matters anyway?
