Friday Night Lights: Edition #7 BHS @ Brilliant

Middle Child and a good friend visiting in the stands

Well, we had a first for Elder Son during his game.
He got his first ever (and I hope his last ever) personal foul flag.
So, we were winning, pretty handedly, like 50-6 at the time, which obviously
brought out a lot of angst and frustration from the opponents.  During one play,
Elder Son's best friend since Kindergarten made a great defensive tackle and while
on the  pile on the ground, this friend was hit in his privates area more than once.

Elder Son was standing there and saw this happening. He was also standing right
next to a referee, and felt like said referee should be reminded of what he had just
seen as well. So, Elder Son may or may not have repeatedly informed the said
referee of the offense happening in the pile to his friend and teammate.

Please refer to the picture below and look closely to see Elder Son RIGHT in the ear of the ref.
Saying something along the lines of
"He hit him in the nuts. Did you not just see that?  he was hitting him in the nuts."
"Surely you saw that, he hit him in the nuts. How did you not see that?"

And so, the referee, after hearing this in his ear repeatedly,
decided he did not need Elder Son's help in calling this ballgame.
And furthermore, Elder Son did not need to speak so loudly in his ear.
And thus, a yellow flag was thrown.

Elder Son's grandmother bragged on him after the game for getting his personal foul.
I tried to explain to her that it's not a good thing, it was a futile effort on my part. He does no wrong. You don't believe me? Ask her.

In basketball she loves for the kids to get their allotted fouls on the court. She thinks you shouldn't waste them, use them. At least get 3 or 4 of your allotted 5. I tried to explain to her that isn't how it works in football. You don't have 5 fouls to play around with. Again. It was no use. Finally, I joined her camp and just said, "good job, Elder Son, way to stand up for your teammate on the field".
Because sometimes it's easier to just go with her flow. :)
